Some established gearbox manufacturers design their products as closed systems. Cross-referencing a replacement, or sourcing an individual component, often depends on manufacturer-specific knowledge that isn’t publicly available. The practical result is that a service team can end up replacing an entire motor-gearbox assembly, even when only one part of it actually failed — which adds cost, adds lead time, and adds pressure to a job that was already time-sensitive.
On a closed system, that full-assembly replacement often comes at a real premium over the part that actually failed — a cost that’s hard to justify when the rest of the unit is still good.
